NE İÇİNDEYİM ZAMANIN
Ne içindeyim zamanın,
Ne de büsbütün dışında;
Yekpare, geniş bir anın
Parçalanmaz akışında.
Bir garip rüya rengiyle
Uyuşmuş gibi her şekil,
Rüzgarda uçan tüy bile
Benim kadar hafif değil.
Başım sükutu öğüten
Uçsuz bucaksız değirmen;
İçim muradına ermiş
Abasız, postsuz bir derviş.
Kökü bende bir sarmaşık
Olmuş dünya sezmekteyim,
Mavi, masmavi bir ışık
Ortasında yüzmekteyim.
WHAT I’M IN THE TIME
I am neither within time,
Nor entirely outside;
In the undivided flow
Of a single, expansive moment.
As if merged with a strange dream-like hue,
Every form appears to harmonize,
Even a feather floating in the wind
Is not as light as I am.
My head is a boundless mill Grinding silence,
Within me resides a fulfilled desire,
A dervish without cloak or staff.
The world has become a vine Rooted within me,
I perceive it,
Swimming amidst a blue,
Deep blue light.
WHAT AM I IN TIME
What am I in time,
Nor out of the whole;
Of a monolithic, expansive moment
In its inextricable flow.
With a strange dream color
Every shape as if numb,
Even a feather flying in the wind
Not as light as me.
My head grinds with tranquility
The endless mill;
My heart has been fulfilled
A dervish without a shirt, without a coat.
I have an ivy root
I feel the world has happened,
A blue, azure light
I’m swimming in the middle.
Critical Reading and Analysis: Çıraklı “A Modest Proposal for Critical Reading”
Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar beautifully weaves the ethereal concept of "time" into his poetic creations, seamlessly merging the realms of time and poetry. Thus, Tanpınar's poem "What I'm in The Time" shall be analysed from this particular standpoint, delving deep into its intricate layers.
The poet's words transcend the constraints of time and space, delving deep into the realms of internal reflection and existential contemplation. The storyworld is not a physical setting that exists outside of the narrative; rather, it is an internal landscape that consists of feelings, ideas, and reflective thoughts.
Cumhuriyet Dönemi – Repuclican Era
Transcendental Persona - instinctual desires -conscious self -internalized moral standards
Inside – Outside (I am neither within time / Nor entirely outside) Fragmentation – Wholeness (In the undivided flow / Of a single, expansive moment)
